As a parent of 2 children (both boys) I & my wife was always imploring the definition of being good parents to our children. I particularly went on a quest to find out what and how the best parent feels and looks like. I read up a lot – from books to blogs and whatever else I could lay my hands on.
Not only that; I also attended extensive coaching which included hands-on training on various parenting aspects, like how you can bond with your child better, how to avoid conflict with your children, how to inculcate healthy eating habits in children, how to enhance your child’s learning ability, and how to teach them life skills and so on.
I have been training children and counseling parents on different aspects of Parenting and what role they should be performing in raising happy and successful children.
While I couldn’t find the ideal parent, my interaction with parents, workshops with children, and my efforts in trying to find and know more on this topic gave me insights into myriad thoughts, questions, and challenges parents are facing today. I am happy that I have been able to help parents resolve their issues and understand their children much better.
I also realized that till about the time your child gets into his/her teens, all they need from you is your TIME & your AFFTENTION(no, it’s not a typo – it is a combo of Affection & Attention)
You give them these 2 things and your bonding with your children will remain intact forever.
I also understood that how much ever you read up and train, you will learn the most in the playing field. This is why I always say that my biggest Guru remains, my 2 boys, who have put me through various drills and have been consistently putting my parenting skills to test. On many occasions, I have passed with flying colors and in other situations, I ended up learning new parenting lessons.
I intend to share those learnings here.
Keep watching this space and comments are welcome.
